As a beginner in photography, you may be so excited that you now have your most favorite tool but as it is said, a bad workman quarrels with his tools. If you do not get to know the settings and the modes of your digital camera then you shall surely have a hard time.
Shutter and aperture: These two allow you to have more control over the images you have. Don’t simply switch to the manual mode yet you haven’t explored or experimented with other things yet.
White balance: This is something that most photographers using digital cameras have a problem with. The subject will somehow appear yellowish and you need to know why and how you can correct this.
Get to know the histograms: These are the representations of the pixels in a graphic form. The left side is for the shadows and the right side is for the bright areas. Histograms help you to know if an image is well exposed.
Automatic exposure bracketing: All professional photographers use this technique so that their pictures have good exposure even in situations where there are problems with the light.
Camera techniques
1. First of all, you need to know how to hold your camera. If you hold it all wrong then everything will be wrong with the images that you take.
2. The next thing you should know is the shutter release technique. This technique gives you added control while doing continuous shooting. You will be able to take as many photos as you want plus your camera will be still. However, do not use the tip of your finger to press the shutter instead use the flat part so that your finger is horizontal when the shutter is released thus more control and less shaking.
3. You will also need to know how to operate the focal lock. Many photographers do not know how to focus on their subjects. No wonder digital cameras are now coming with face recognition but if you do not have such a camera then you had better get your focus right.
As a beginner, there are many things for you to learn but those stated above are just a tip of the iceberg. You will need to know always how to keep your sensor clean and how to clean your camera’s lenses. These are just baby steps and they are very important since they shape you to become a good photographer.
