We would rather you understood the money before you upload. Here is how contributor earnings work on Photofolio, in plain terms.
Your share
Independent contributors earn 65% of the net price of each download. Photofolio keeps 35% to run the platform, payment processing, storage, delivery and marketing. There are no listing fees and no charges for storage.
What the price is
- Single purchase: a Standard image is 1 credit (£6), a Premium image 3 credits (£18). Your 65% is calculated on the net amount after VAT and payment fees.
- Credit packs: buyers pay less per credit in a pack. Your share is calculated on the actual price paid per credit for that download.
- Subscriptions: a subscriber’s monthly fee is divided by the credits included; each download is valued at that per-credit rate and you receive 65% of it.
Premium collection
Images accepted into the Premium collection earn three times the Standard rate per download. We select for distinctiveness and production quality; you can nominate images when you upload.
When you are paid
Sales appear in your contributor dashboard as they happen and are confirmed once the buyer’s payment clears (immediately for card and PayPal). You can request a withdrawal when your confirmed balance reaches £25, by PayPal or UK bank transfer. Withdrawals are processed within five working days.
Tax
You are responsible for declaring your own income. Your dashboard exports a statement for each tax year. If you are VAT-registered, tell us and we will handle invoicing accordingly.
Refunds and disputes
If a buyer is refunded — rare, usually a duplicate purchase — the corresponding earning is reversed. We tell you when this happens.
